Maya Suess, makes drawings, installations, videos, performances and other mischievous entities. She received a 2013 Toronto Arts Council grant for her drawing series Becoming, and was commissioned for portrait for the Canadian Lesbian and Gay Archives. She was a fellow at the BRIC/Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn NY, and a recipient of a 2009 Independent Artist’s Grant from the New York State Council on the Arts. She has exhibited in the United States, Canada, across Europe and Japan. She has an upcoming solo exhibition at the Prince Street location of the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art. She holds a BFA in Media Arts from Emily Carr Institute, and an MFA in contemporary performance from Simon Fraser University. Born on a small island off the coast of western Canada, today she lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
